The Nepalese American Convention (NAC) was established in 2016, with its inaugural event held in Los Angeles. From its inception, NAC was envisioned as a vibrant, three-day celebration bringing together the Nepalese community across the United States through sports, entertainment, and networking.
Early conventions featured a wide range of activities, including:
- Soccer, basketball, volleyball, cricket, and ping pong
- Cultural nights, fashion shows, and concerts
- DJ events, forums, and community gatherings
A focused vision:
NAC was founded to provide a meaningful and engaging platform for the Nepalese diaspora to come together during the 4th of July weekend. As community interests evolved, particularly among younger generations, there was a growing demand for a more dynamic, sports-focused and youth-driven experience. In response, NAC was created to foster stronger community engagement, with a special emphasis on competitive sports and youth participation.
Growth and leadership:
Over the years, NAC has continued to evolve. Since 2022, the convention has focused primarily on soccer, with a clear vision of elevating the sport to the highest competitive standard within the Nepalese American community. Under the leadership of Founding President Bash Bissu (Los Angeles) and Vice President Bibek Tamang (Baltimore), NAC has grown into a premier soccer platform.
NAC 2026 — New York:
Now approaching its 9th edition in New York in 2026, NAC Soccer has become one of the most competitive Nepalese tournaments in the United States. Each year, approximately 500 players from across the country participate in a high-level, 11-a-side tournament. With increasing prize pools and rising standards, NAC continues to set new benchmarks, with the goal of becoming the largest and most competitive Nepalese soccer event in the nation.
